   I agree it'd be nice if Amtrak could make it on their own but there are no passenger railroads in the world that do not get subsidies. The London underground, French TGV, the Bullet train in Japan all get subsidies. Its not that big a deal and they only get I think 1.8 billion to run the trains. Its not a ridiculous amount of money and in my opinion the country has to have a national passenger service. Just my opinion.

   I am looking through some job info I have on Amtrak and they refer to T&E jobs and OBS jobs? What types of jobs are T&E? OBS? What is the difference between them?

   T&E is train and engine... not sure about OBS.. try googling it.

   I think OBS is On-board-service like attendants, non conductor on board personnel.

   Hi everyone. I been invited to a orientation on monday for Amtrak. I received a letter in the mail along with an application. Theletter says that they want to see what type of skills set i have. I would like to know has anyone been through this process and what type of questions shall i ask. The position is for lineman trainee

   I went to the orientation/test. I was an engineer from amtrak on and a couple reps from hr. We talked about the job and then a 3 hour test on reading math and mechanical alptitude. I think i did pretty well. I got to call hr on wednesday for the test scores. If i pass i can set an interview up for next week. I hope i pass and go on the the interview

    don't know if anyone reads this thread or not but figure I post about it well after browsing some posting on amtrak site they have job opening for Assistant Passenger Conductor Trainee in both NYC, and New haven , Ct New Haven posting closes 3/23/12 and the NYC closes on 3/28/12 though it can be closed earlier.

    lightl good luck brotha !!!! For everyone to know when jobs post from Amtrak like that they dont STAY up TOO long so JUMP on them quickly before they take them down just as fast as they go UP ... just like thru CSX or BNSF or any railroad company so stay on top of them if before they dissapear cause if u dont they dont come anytime soon ... JUST SOME HEADS UP KNOWLEDGE for u all !!!!!

    oh for found some posting for Cali. and FLA, carman journyman postion and a few electrical type jobs, and to add to what Elim2010 is saying they also will change the closing date by moving them up

    I was invited to the NJ session. I followed Sean's book with making my resume to get there and applied hundreds of times since 2009. Now I need help to try and nail this interview. I had a coach cleaner interview with Amtrak in September of 2009 and didn't get the job. I also had a conductor interview with BNSF railway in June of 2011 in South Dakota and didn't get the job. Can anyone help me?

    TJPwrs04 You should do some mock interviews with friends and family members and remember everything that is taught in the e-book. Practice and prepare! REad this forum as well.

    Was that session for both the signal helpers in Linden and Newark, and will that be the only hiring session they hold? I also applied to that a few weeks ago

    well there a posting for electrician maintenance and lineman trainee in Connecticut and those 2 C&S helper posting for New Jersey are still up they close on the 17th. I started looking at some job posting for Rensselaer NY since I am half-way between NYC and Rensselaer, there like 8 different posting for different crafts and jobs

    Hey everyone, I got invited to a test/orientation for the C&S helper in philly. They sent me a mess of papers to fill out, the only one I'am confused with is this "Request/Consent for Information from Previous Employer on Alcohol & Controlled Substance Testing". For my current employer i need a med card to drive their trucks, so for this i do get drug tested and a physical, so do i need to go to my boss and have him fill it out, or is this something Amtrak does after i get employed and whatnot?

    @ UrbanRedneck my guess is that they are asking for your persmission to inquiry about past drug/alcohol test,if anything there should be a number in the email to call amtrak hr if you have any question about it , well there was in the last email I got for a hiring session

    The ebook is def. worth it. Look at the cost vs reward. For as inexpensive that it is and for what you will make. I just consider it investing in your future....i would recommend it to ANYONE! Between researching the forum and the ebook it helped me alot. I would not be where i am right now in the process without it. Heck i would pay just to be a member of the forum with all the info you get.
