I am a newbie and thought it mighty be helpfull to outline what I went through to land a slot in a Conductor class, Sean your book helped out alot and was well worth the price. I crash and burned on my 1st interview with the UP back in September, I didnt give up and kept plugging away, I was willing to relocate to a number of locations and was applying to both the UP and the BN. Finally received an invite from BN for an interview Feb 21st in Minneapolis, I was a little supprised at the size of the attendance (185) and only 10 slots, but I learned from my blown interview and I guess I made an impression. My conditional offer came on Feb 28th with the medicals a few days after that, my final offer arrived on March 25 with a start date of April 4th at the NorthTown yard in Minneapolis.

I was at that BNSF job assessment too. I can confirm there were 185 people there, Those lines were horrible! Interviewed and got selected as an alternate though. I also kept plugging away and ended up getting in with CP recently, my start date is April 11th. Pretty close to your start date. Congrats Jgfly!

I applied for BNSF in Seattle,Wa. back in Jan. 2011 and screwed up and didn't post a cover letter and resume with my app. I got the thanks but no thanks e-mail after a few weeks of waiting. So to my surprise BNSF post another job posting for the same place but instead of 10 conductors they are now hiring 20 conductors. So I spent $200.00 on a professional resume and cover letter. I post my app. and cover letter and resume about a week or so ago and now i'm just waiting for an invite. I HOPE TO GOD I GET INVITED!!!! I am 900 miles away from Seattle but my wife and I are relocating to Seattle that was already in the works before I applied. So Now it is just a waiting game I guess. How long did it take for you all to hear back from them when you got your invite?

For you new people, there are many threads on this site dealing with BNSF interviews, they are there to find. If you can't find what you are looking, this is the thread to ask, along with any other information you seek.

Just and update I have my strength test Saturday with BNSF RR which I think is my last step in the hiring process. I've already done my background check, drug testing and medical questionnaire. But I really don't know the results cause I haven't heard anything.

Okay, BNSF is finally hiring in my home state. If I don't at least get invited to the testing & hiring session. I give up. I have applied with them to more than 7 locations in different states. So Freewood, you had stated an HR lady told your group that they give priority to people that live in the same state as they are hiring in. Well we'll see. Man I feel with all the info I have taken in from the forum here, if I can just get a chance at an interview, I could land the job (I hope anyhow).

Yeah, Winslow is hiring again. They hired a class in late Dec I believe. Good luck man, sell yourself like never before.

Azguy2 - Have you tried getting you resume professional done. Maybe there is something in the your resume they are seeing that might be throwing a red flag. Excuse the rail term. Anyways I would scan your resume again and don't give up. I went on two years applying with C.S.X. and N.S. on East Coast before someone called me from U.P. in Seattle. The funny thing about Seattle is I didn't apply anywhere else except for Seattle. Just had interview March 31st and still waiting back for answer. Like Sean always says "No News is Good News"

    Anyways Good Luck

Just finished my BNSF Strength test today in Temple, TX. I feel I passed, all my repetitions were constant. But I will tell anyone if your serious about working for the RR don't leave nothing to chance do everything like your life depended on it. All I have left is my vision and hearing test which I take Friday in Waco, Tx. And I guess I still have a physical unless the strength test and the physical or one in the same. I will keep everyone posted and I wish you all the best. Stay Blessed.

Volusia, I feel my resume isn't that bad and sorry I did check into having it done professionally, but I'm not paying out $100 to $200. Don't feel my resume was why
I wasn't getting invited, More on the end of what Freewood had to say about the HR
lady and her comment. I used Sean's example resume from his book.

Sad day for BNSF Family in my prayer's

BNSF Railroad is investigating how the accident happened and why the shuttle van driver attempted to cross the tracks and into an oncoming train. Both the van and the train had “black boxes” (data recording devices) which investigators hope will provide some answers. Investigators also plan to see if any surveillance tapes exist that may have captured moments before the accident.

The two BNSF railroad workers who were killed were identified as 28 year-old Chris Loehr, a conductor trainee from Vancouver, WA and 58 year-old Tom Kenny, from Seattle, WA, an engineer who worked for BNSF for the last 22 years. The shuttle van driver who was also killed was identified as 60 year-old Steven Sebastian, from Castle Rock, WA, who drove the van for Coach America.

The other BSNF railroad worker who was seriously injured in the accident was identified as 52 year-old Dwight Hauck, from Auburn, WA. He was taken to a hospital in Portland.

I heard about that last week. It's ironic in a sad way, but it was the driver's fault, and due to witness accounts and the loco camera, the driver did not stop at the crossing. How that Conductor survived, I don't know but it wasn't his time to check out yet.

Around that same day, a Conductor I made my trips with died in a car accident as well, so double wammy.

i have a hiring session with BNSF on next wednesday and i downloaded sean's ebook. and i feel it is helping me learn alot. i have been a EMT/Firefighter since 2005 and i was also a delivery driver. but i am concerned because i dont know the exact date of wen i left my previous employers....like i do not know the exact day i know the month and the year jus not the exact day....since i know they want honesty i dont want to mess it up in the interview.... so does anyone have any other kinds of advice to ace the interview.......or helpful hints to get the job

I wouldn't worry about it as much. I went to my interview with no phone numbers of the previous railroad but had correct address and he ask but it wasn't that big of a deal when I explain they went bankrupt and there was no telephone number. Plus most of them don't really care about the exact date. Just as long as you know month and year. Good luck.

I was wondering if someone could give me some advise??? I applied with BNSF three times and got the thanks but no thanks e-mail...not even a interview. Now I have applied for UP but have not heard anything yet. Here is my question...I have used my real address in Nevada on all my apps. I am applying in Seattle,Wa. which is 900 miles northwest of were I am now...We are moving no matter what. Should I find a weekly motel and use there address in Seattle,Wa. so I have a local address? I am just trying to find out why I keep getting pasted over. I mean there was a person on the forum the other day who is a Firefighter / Emt just like myself and he got a interview....Just makes me want to scream!!!!!!!!! Any advise would be a great help. Thank you all.

I would use a relative or may be a 'mail boxes etc.' street address. That is a private PO Box type place where people can get mail instead of at the post office.
