@Azguy I also was denied an invite to the Winslow location. It was my 3rd denial for Winslow too and I thought I would have a chance since Im in Arizona and am well qualified with a solid work history. I dont know what they are looking for but I have had several invites from BNSF that were out of state and dont know why I cant get an invite in my home state. However, I applied with UP in Az, so maybe I will have better luck with them.

Azguy2, atwitsend, traintracks, & AA757jr don't get discouraged. Keep applying for any & all openings close to home, or someplace at a comfortable distance. Try applying for different crafts. I scan most class I & II's for any & all trainee positions, shop entry level positions, hostler (oiler & sanders) etc. etc. Even if they say no, re-apply for the same position under a different requisition #. If you want it bad enough, go for it. Someday, hopefully soon, POW you'll fall into it. Good-luck & keep the faith

Pacgrewes, you said on your post you can put in for a new ( requisition # )how do you go about doing that? is that a new e-mail address or what? The reason i ask, i've had 2 different apps. come back as " Thank you for applying" and 1 come back as " Your application was not used" so my question also is, can i re-apply for these positions again under what you called a "new requisition # " maybe i could get a 2nd chance on these apps.
Thank you for any help. also on my apps. i did not put down any Professional References, will that hurt me? and would it be crazy to get ahold of our Local Railroad Union and ask if they would submitt any info. on references?
Been reading up on these forums as much as possible and watching for Sean's responses as all of this info. on here is very important.
    Thanks again, REH67

REH67, just apply regardless. If I was in your position, I'd apply till the said stop. Fortunately, I didn't have to.

As for references, you don't need to list any. You can make a reference sheet and if you receive an interview, ask them if they want copies.

Which union do you speak of?

AA757JR, good for you on getting the interview in Denver, my question to you is, when did you apply for this track position and which RR is giving you this chance? just curious as i also live in the Denver area and had also applied for BNSF's track worker position but my app. is still under review. After May6th. when you get back to C.Springs, let us know on here what you went through and gives us an update to what questions they asked you, any info. can help out as we all are trying for a better future, thanks and take care.

Remember, BNSF is always watching you while you work, so don't get laxed. They busted my foreman for an "8 deadly" today. Today was a screwed up day anyway, sucks it ended the way it did.

That must be a BNSF term. What is 8 deadly? I think today everyone was distracted because Osama got roasted last night.

    The 8 deadly decisions are:

    On and Off (moving equip)
    Going Between (w/o proper protection)
    Separation (not having 50ft)
Riding End (riding end of car) exception is the tank car
Fouling (fouling track before ensuring there is no movement)
    Running (during work)
Riding (riding cars to a joint)
Shoving (improper protection for cars ahead of engine)

Do you lose your job or is this a write up?

It's usually a write up offense but if a disaster happens then bye-bye... Yeah we got
the same on U.P. but we don't call them by that name.

Volusia, depending on the outcome of the investigation, you're more than likely to get fired. Take a little vacation, come back when they say you can. Invest in job insurance.

Getting fired doesn't mean you can't ever come back, it's just time off. Now if you get fired for the same infraction twice, then you can kiss your job good bye.

They are anal about those deadlies. They'll stop the job you're working, piss test you, get statements and send everybody home.

Something like getting on and off moving equipment, depending on who caught you, might be easy with you if you are an old head whose been working for like 30 years. That used to be part of the job, getting on and off moving equipment, sometimes they just do it out of habit without thinking, but still, it's the rule now and even that won't always save you.

I was actually surprised to hear that getting on and off moving equipment was a violation. But I am glad to hear that they are very aware of the safety factors in all those rules.

I recently went thru the hiring process with BNSF here in Kansas City and have made it to the "end" so to speak...I recieved my conditional offer on 3-24-11 and I have passed all the test they have thrown at me so far and I received my email comfirmation that I met the medical standards for the job from CHS. The job posting showed the anticipated start date May 9th...I still don't have my final job offer and no word from anyone at BNSF...I'm paranoid now.

Do you all have any advice or does anyone else on here in the KC area have the same happening to them with this class of 30 that is supposed to be going in next week? Do they usually wait this close to a start date or do you suspect the date has been pushed back? They had another class of 20 posted about a month ago to start in July. Is calling to find out what is going on bad?

@ Freewood, Did you have a ride along as part of your promotion exams?

WTH is a promotion exam? and what ride along?

You have to pass the GCOR with 90% or better to receive yor conductor certificate (Promote). My training coordinator mentioned that a trainmaster will also do a ride along some time during week 15. I was wondering if you had to go thru this. It may just be the difference in agreements. I am under the old CB&Q. It may be different under the SF agreement.

I also have to pass a Hostler exam, end of next week

Probably since you are Northern Lines agreement. No hostler exam for SF, just the BN guys. I wouldn't mind it, there are times I would like to help move power around. I could if I was doing it by remote and MUing up to the power needed to be moved.

Oh and we just called it Conductors exam, and the ride along is a check ride.

    Good luck on your exam.

i feel lucky now. we started with 17 people. 6 failed the apptitude test so there were 11 of us that interviewed for i believe 10 spots. im confident about the interview, they seemed to like my answers about why safety is important and relative experiences i have from the airport. Man is there interview stressful, but i think i did good, so now i wait a week and find out if i get a conditional offer.

Today received a phone call and email from BNSF for Hiring session in Grand Forks, N.D. Just wondering if anyone else is headed that way as well on May 17th. I will keep everyone informed of the situation. There is a funny story to go along with this as well but I will let you know what it was after the session. Wish me luck.

@REH67 - I live in Michigan. Believe me when I say I have been applying for the last 2 yrs for CSX and NS on East coast with no luck so, one day in November I decided to apply for U.P. Seattle, WA and then had a hiring session on March 31st. I didnt get the job but now I applied for BNSF Grand Forks, N.D. sometime in April and received a interview on May 17th. I have applied at other area's as well but those are the only two that have called me. All application have been for Train Service or Freight Conductor. Keep up the faith and Good Luck.

@Iship - Sent you a private message last night. If you would like to exchange numbers that is fine. Please send that info through private message. See you on Tuesday.
