just saw your post on the other thread Johnnbea....why would they interview more people when so many people had firm...or close to firm offers?

Were any of you due to start the CT class in Wichita Falls, TX on March 5th?

Makstl
I kind of got that from the HR lady when I talked to her. She was under the assumption that there may not be any more classes offered til late summer or fall but said just to monitor the web site for any changes. Hope that is not the case.

I noticed that myself about the bnsf jobs for only nars students, are they only gonna except them now to save money or something?
Posted 2 months ago # -
I interviewed in Kansas City last Wednesday, and we were told that the April 23rd class we were interviewing for had already been cancelled. They went ahead with the interviews and said that if we were selected we would be considered alternates and they would make conditional offers when and if the class rescheduled in the next 6 months. Other than that all the HR people played dumb.

Not all positions are NARS students though, Sterling, Colorado isn't.

The job posted for NARS is for students "currently enrolled" only. When you enroll in NARS they do not promise you a job, just an interview. This is how they fulfill this obligation. This is what they offer for spending six weeks and six thousand dollars. An interview only. Whether there is a job to fill or not is irrelevant.

Relax everyone...this the third time I've seen NARS only ads...since September. As for the rest of the panic, this is normal for this time of year for many locations. Why would they over hire?? Maybe not as many folks are retiring as they forecasted...There's a number of reasons why the company could have overestimate the number of people they'll need 4 months from the advert. Just keep in mind that if you're applying to a location with seasonal slowdowns, get used to this kind of thing...

@archerdave Did you go to NARS? I applied in kc but no luck. It doesn't look good anyway. That'S where i would like to work tho.

Just a question for anyone out there. Once conditional offers are rescinded due to class cancellation and they decide to bring the class back, Would they come out with new conditional offers and/or final offers to those that once were slotted for the class? Has this ever happened before?
Posted 2 months ago # -
Glad you asked, rfnm88. I'm in the same situation and would like to know, too.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Same here...
Posted 2 months ago # -
they'll probably tender a conditional to see who hung around. My guess is that once a class is dead, it's dead. The problems of staffing a new class on such short notice would be considerable. Based on what I've seen so far, they need 4 months of lead in to get a class staffed.
Posted 2 months ago # -
I was under the impression they keep your information on file in case something does come up so they contact you and like you said see who hung around. Staffing should not be a problem if the location is the one behind getting the class reinstated should it??

@2001justin No. I was enrolled for the Jan 23rd class, but was advised not to spend the time and money by current and past employees. I applied for the first time to the KC hiring event, and got an invite. Now waiting for a response.

Okay. To recap the post on another thread. The posting that you see for "NARS Students Only" are just that. You will see them as each NARS class finishes, as you do get an interview with BNSF, provided you meet the requirements set by BNSF. To correct an apparent misconception, you are NOT guaranteed ANYTHING from NARS, besides an abbreviated education and introduction to the railroad. The rest is up to you.
For those who are advised not to attend NARS, I'm sorry to hear that, and would really love to know just what the experience was for those advising against it, when they attended NARS. Personally, I think it is an outstanding program, and the training recieved at NARS mirrors exactly, the BNSF training program. There is simply not a better way to be prepared. And don't be fooled by the impression from some that NARS carries no weight in the industry. I am more than comfortable, based on what I've seen and heard, telling you that it most certainly does carry a great deal of weight within our industry. And the NARS reputation IS certainly growing!NOW, as to the class cancellations. This is going to happen regularly, based on a particular terminal's bussiness levels. When you hire on with the railroads, one of the things you have to realize, is that you are simply manpower. You may be needed this week, and not next week, and you will suddenly find your job cut. Happens all across the country, with all railroads, and is always based on business needs.
Same thing happens with hiring sessions. They think they need a new crop of conductor students, so they go through the process of hiring and all that goes with it, and then business slows, and they change their minds. Those who had conditional offers for cancelled, will most likely be looked at, if the class is rescheduled relatively quickly, but after a few months, it really does make more sense from a business stand point, to just start over. Your application remains active and on file, for 6 months from the date of application, but that doesn't mean an automatic call, should they re-instate the original class. There simply are no guarantees on the railroad; you just never know exactly what they are going to do.My suggestion would be to do exactly what I did last year, when it looked like my class was going to be cancelled. I was not going to sit and wait. I hired out with CSX, and then when it was decided that my class was going to go forward, I simply made the move. But I was covered with doing what I wanted to do, either way!
I really do understand all the nerves and frustration, as I have been there! That in addition to 150 rejected applications to BNSF before finally getting hired. You just have to hand in there, and be willing to do whatever you need to do, to be able to work the profession you want to! Good luck to you all!

Can someone please give me the link to the bnsf Break the machine test. I've been looking for a bit now and just can't seem to find it. I have my strength physical this Wednesday!

@ chopper I was scheduled for the march 19th class for Galesburg as well and received an email and phone call!! After dealing with getting medically cleared for 4months to finally get this phone call was extremely disappointing! Are we a Priority hire for being first picked since we have already been given a job offer? So my interview date was November 9th does that mean I have 6 months from that?

The posting for Edgemont was cancelled as well

Got a reply from HR this morning. March and April classes are at this point still on and planned for Amarillo TX. Of course that's always subject to business needs as they develop, and change. But it's good news for now at any rate.
Posted 2 months ago # -
@ trmn8r
When is the march class start date in Amarillo set to start?
Posted 2 months ago # -
3/26 last I heard from someone who was notified they were scheduled for it.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Trmn8r, have you already received your final offer?
Posted 2 months ago # -
no, I'm a ways from that. I'm tentavily scheduled for Aprl class if it happens still. Took too long to get through medical clearance, February and March class filled up before I could get them what they asked for.
I believe the date of the April class is 4/23 to start (read it somewhere, don't recall where) Imagine no final offers for that class will happen till close to 4/9.

Has anyone for the fort worth feb 27th class been pushed back to the march class? Or heard of any cancelations for fort worth classes?
Posted 2 months ago # -
I've had one employer for last 25 years, I guess they contacted them and got all they needed from them, I never heard a word from Verifications Inc. Was curious if it was complete yet so I emailed them and it was done, and resubmitted to BN they said.
