Hi, I was interviewed over a week ago for nsx and was told I would hear something back between 3-5 days. They would let me know in email If i was accepted or not, but haven't received It yet. Should I be worried?? Or do you think maybe there just busy and haven't sent mine to me? I passed the test and thought the interview went very well, felt they were impressed. But haven't heard anything, so is there a numbe I can call and see what the hold up is?? Please someone let me know, this is stressing me out pretty bad. I've never wanted something so bad.

Is it Norfolk Southern or CSX? I would wait for a few more days. Keep checking your email too. Patience is key with the railroad and keep that in the back of your head. Meantime, if you haven't yet, read through the forum. You will get an idea of the process of how the railroad works as far as time and learn a ton.

Norfolk southern I'm sorry, I thought that was how they wrote it.. And I have been reading the forums, they are very helpful!!! I Was just wondering cause they said In the interview they would contact me within 3-5 days and let me know if they are considering me or turning me down. But thank you, I will keep checking my email for a response.

Just to let you know ConductorCma, I was one of the fortunate ones, I bought Seans book prior to applying, read it more than once, wrote down the key words to put into my resume, and read the forum front to back and back to front. Until then, I did not apply. After I did apply it was two months after before a response was accepted for an interview. I guess what I am sayin is, best case scenerio, would be two weeks to two months. Even so do not give up.

I also bought Seans book and found it helped alot!! I memorized the whole thing lol. And I read up on NS on the Internet and also downloaded an app on my phone so i could start learning the different signs and signals. I have a buddy who just wemt from conductor to engineer whos been giving me tips also. I want this job so bad!! I did all of this before I even submitted an application online. I just Started thinking maybe they forgot about me. I am a woman, and one that's hard to forget lol. But now that I know there a little slow, it puts my mind at ease!!! I check my email a couple times a days everyday just waiting, lol. I'm really looking forward to having this as my career. It's the perfect job for me. No husband or kids and I live to work!!! I'm crazy safety conscience, and love to learn!! Was always fascinated with trains. My best friends gramps worked for ns and always spoke so highly of them, I would think to myself, now I need a job like that!!! I want to say thank you to everyone who responded to my question.

Hey conductorcma, I see you live local to me. Was that an open session for ns or did you apply for that on their site? Did you apply before the new site on Jan 5? Sorry for all the questions!
Good luck to you on getting called back. From the looks of other posts, ns says 3-5 days but it usually takes them 3-5 weeks lol. I wouldn't sweat it. I am just hoping for an invite to a session from ns in the cincy area. Last one I applied for was Jan 9 this year. Still says pending which is better than denied.Posted 3 months ago # -
I have the ns app on my phone, I'm sorry that I didn't clarify that. I'm learnim the signals n signs from a friends old book. But someone told me there is an app on the iPhone that does teach the different signs, but I have the actual training book, so u dnt need it.
And I'm not sure what an open session is. I applied online, then did the interview and was told to make a new profile because they updated there system. My status doesn't say pending, do I need to re-apply for the position? I have no clue, can someone help?

Trying to learn signals or anything else before your schooling starts is a waste of time. You may be learning something wrong!
Posted 3 months ago # -
Really?? Are the signs and Signals different for each railroad??
Posted 3 months ago # -
Yes, similar but different

Do not study before your classes!!

ConductorCMA did you ever hear anything back? Im going through the same situation right now with NS.. Birmingham, AL that is..
Posted 3 months ago # -
Nope still waiting. I haven't received one declining me either. So I'm just checking my email everyday, hoping I get it. Let me know when you hear something back, so I know what to look for.
Posted 3 months ago # -
OKAY. I just don't understand why it would be taking so long. No news is good news but then the longer you go, you start to wonder if they forgot you, or if something went wrong and you never received the "thanks but no thanks"

Someone told me the RR is a lot like the military, hurry up and wait, then wait some more. Lol.
Posted 3 months ago # -
Well I hope im not waiting for the rejection email, hopefully all the waiting is gonna pay off. Surely if you weren't chosen they would have informed us by now haha

ConductorCma - You are right. Scenario, setting out 3 tank cars at the Oil Spur and have to cross Main Track to do it. We get to the Switch/Derail to enter Main 1, call the Dispatcher, he says he has a Z train, a coal train and an Amtrak first. We wait 2 hours before receiving Authority. On the Main you LIVE by AUTHORITY, and have plenty of time to hurry up and wait.

Sean is right! For all getting ready to start, don't spend your time trying to learn things that you have no idea if they are even correct! Signals may look the same, but have different meanings for different railroads (ie. CSX uses a speed system, where the BNSF uses a directional system; although a red over green may be a Slow Clear signal for CSX, for BNSF it's a diverging clear, taking me on a turnout), and you may have a rulebook, but they change all the time, so you don't know if you have the most current or not! Spend your time getting ready to go, and getting focused on what lies ahead!

AMEN on Authority! :-)Posted 3 months ago # -
I got an email today for the other position I applied for with NS for the signal helper position. I haven't heard back about the conductor position, I was wondering if I should go to the interview as a backup? I know there are a few positions that if you work there, you won't be able to move up and transfer. Wondering if that is one of them? The interview is on Wednesday, I want to know if I should take off work and drive to columbus. It's about a 3 hr drive for me but if it's a opportunity to get my foot in the door, I would totally do it!
Posted 2 months ago # -
Do it. Unless you have no interest in it. You can always transfer after/

@ConductorCma
If you have an invite to a hiring session, jump on it! As canuckmatt said, you can always craft transfer to a different job at some point in the future. There is no guarantee that you will even get called for the conductor interview, so if you have one, grab the bird in hand! Good luck!Posted 2 months ago # -
I made arrangents today at work. I will be at the hiring session. I know a little more about the process since I just got finished doing one, so I'm not as nervous. But the conductor position would have been my top choice. Either way, I'm sure I will love the job!! Thanks everyone.

A bird in hand is better than no bird at all!

Hey Machinist817, have u heard anything back yet? It's been 3 months n counting for me. Debating on calling, but if I do call, I have no idea what questions to ask. I'd hate to seem impatient.
