If anyone has a question about the inner workings of dispatching or why dispatchers say or act a certain way, I'll answer your question. If I dont have the answer I'll get it. I'm training for it right now.

Hi Collin, I'm not sure I'd be that big of a help to you because I only started there a couple months ago and I work on the US side. I do know the Canadian side works a little different than the US side even though its the same company. I'll try to help you with any questions you may have though. Feel free to PM me

well at the moment i am in the long daunting process of trying to get a green card in fact i have only just started going about, have been onto the Canadian consulate talking about options but realistically if i was moving it would be in the next 5-8 years yea see right now I'm applying to drive trains in Ireland vacancies have come up this summer and i would rather apply for a job with Canadian railway with a driver qualification rather than a lesser qualification because when i hope to move i'll be about 38 yrs and at that age very few in my opinion would take someone... anyway dont mind all that.... but can you tell me how is canadian railway on the us side? whatis your graded job?

38 is not too old to get hired at all. They won't hire you as a Engineer. You will need to start as a conductor and work your way up. So if your waiting to become an Engineer in Ireland first then it won't help you in Canada. Good luck!

BNSF tracks run north and south in sd. CP/DME tracks run east and west. they follow a couple of state hwys. people here are really friendly. there is howerver a lot of flooding, so youll feel like youre walking on water, or breathing it some days. good luck in class.

Hello all. My name is Ian and am new to the forum. I live in Canada and am trying to get into the railway. I even took a course at my local college to enhance knowledge and resume. I want to work as a conductor. I have had interviews but not gotten in. The interviews were good just not selected. My concern is that when I re-apply to a position I did before, the website seems to reject me. Is thias because I already applied to the area and was rejected?

LikeinRail, I don't know how they work up in canada, here in the US once you interview for a position in a specific area & are not selected for employment you are locked out for 6 mos. for reappliing for that same area. You can apply for other areas during that 6 month period as many times as there are openings. Good luck!

Do you get the chance to interview at these types of sessions?
Posted 8 months ago # -
I would imagine you do. Provided you survive the scare speech and testing first. Read Seans book and you should get an interview.

There were a bunch of conductor positions listed across Canada for CP this last month - the email for the career fairs should be out right away.

Got a phone call tonight at home from a gal at CP...wanting to ask me some follow up questions in regards to my conductor trainee app. Phone call went great...never happened to me before so I'm hoping this is a good sign for an opportunity to get invited to a hiring session. Am used to getting the "thanks but no thanks"...so keeping my fingers crossed!!
All you guys heading up to Detroit...I wish you guys all the best hopes for getting hired!! Keep us posted on how you guys do up there!!Posted 8 months ago # -
Yeah let us know what happens if you go to Detroit!

Well I went to Detroit today to check out the CP Recruitment. Very glad I went! They must be really hurting for people. We listened to their scare speech, a couple people left. They said it was for the Dakota's only, a few more people left. Then they answered some of our questions and said whoever wants an interview come on up, and sign your name on the date and time you want to come back. That was it! No test, nothing. I have my interview Thursday at 11. I feel kinda bad, cause most of you all go through a lot more hoops than that to get an interview.
The HR people there conducting the interviews said "You don't need to dress up. This is a job where you will get dirty and be wearing steel toed boots. So don't worry about wearing ties, and suits. Come as you are even if it's straight out of work."Don't dress up for an interview? I don't know, that just doesn't seem right, but I guess they know what they are looking for.
Very good time though, aside from the few "know it all's" You know the type. They think they know more about railroading than people conducting the meeting. Hopefully they get the boot in the interview.
