Hello all, does anyone know anything about the Delaware - Lackawanna railroad. If they are hireing? and how they are to work for. Who would be the contact person there? Thanks for any info and help.

I recently applied with a smaller Class II or Class III RxR, which it is, I am not sure. They went ahead and did a back ground check. I know that it was done on Friday as my current employer told me about the phone call. What should I do now? Can I call them? Should I be patient? If anyone has some advice please tell me. Thanks!

Why don't you contact the RR and ask them if they have any further guidance for you. You want to handle things well with your current employer for a trouble free transition.

Anyone every heard of Railserve? Website is Railserve.biz? Its owned by Warren Buffet if that helps. I'm thinking of applying just to break into the RR business. Thanks

@DavidJM - When did you do the application? If it has been like a month and about two weeks since they talk to your employer. I would call them up and just check on your application. Dont give them any hint that your employer told you they called. Maybe at this time they are deciding if it is cost effective to fill position. Good Luck.

What make the class of railroad. I truly love the narrow gauge in Durango and Chama, NM. My great uncle was a engineer for the D&RGW since 56', he started in 52'. Retired in the 80's for the Rio Grande in Alamosa doing the diesels, he said after running the steam engines these boxes with wheels stink and are boring! LOL love that guy and the stories.

The different RR Classes, 1, 2 and 3 are determined by the RR Operating Revenue!

Last email recieved about an interview with small railroad was sent the day before the interview and read "This week is out, lot of things have changed, I will call you."
Then two days later the website for this company listed on their employment page that "There are currently no available positions." I am extremely disappointed. Can someone please explain what I should think of the email saying they will call me which was followed by the complete removal of job openings?Thank you.

It's called "Don't put all your eggs in one basket".... Their hiring needs have changed so keep an eye on the website and move on. Apply at other rr's you want to work for! Good luck!

Ok, I'm taking the Shotgun approach now. I have applied to all the Class 1 railroads in my area, and in Illinois that's about all of them.
This past weekend my wife and I saw a TP&W east bound and she asked me if I applied to them. I said no. She asked me "Why not?" That to me thinking, why not? I want to work for a railroad, while the pay may not be as much as the Class 1 railroads, it would be conciderably more than I'm making now. PLUS it would be a job that I know I'll love doing, no matter what position. So I put in my app. Now once again, it's time to wait.Posted 10 months ago # -
Yeah that site is in the guide. Good luck!
Posted 10 months ago # -
Yea! One of the TP&W positions I applied for changed from "Submitted" to "Under Review"
It's a start...now some more waiting. I guess I'll take the time and review the ebook.Posted 9 months ago # -
Good luck man!

Thanks Sean
I now have two positions with TP&W that have changed from "Submitted" to "Under Review"
A little excitement to break up the long wait!Posted 9 months ago # -
You will probably get an interview!

Hello Everyone,
I purchased Sean's book for my son(great investment by the way). He since has had an interview with NS (didn't get the job) and now has one with Indiana Railroad (Train Operator). We were talking about this interview and thought it might be a good idea to see if anyone here has had any dealings with Indiana Railroad. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
He wondered if INRD would send him to school, are all railroads union, what type of starting salary(not listed on the INRD site)could he be looking at etc. etc.

I went on the Pinsly Railroad group (Arkansas Midland as well as a few other shortlines) website but didn't see where to apply. Anybody have any additional info?

If a short line does not have an online application system then all you can do is call them and ask....

Hey friends ... whats going on ??? I'm here writing to you guys letting u know NEVER give up BUT theres an alternative to get into the railroad that MOST people dont really thing about BUT if your lucky IT WORKS !!!!!!!!!!!!! Try and work for one of the whats called the CONTRACTOR companies those railroad companies emplore ... IE ... security.. lifting company such as PACKRAIL ... or even something simple as Progress which we all know is the company that fixes the railcars!!! This is just an idea ... because as now im about to explain i got into CSX in April of this year because my CONTRACTOR i used to work for called P&B Trailer Repair Service spoke to CSX on my behalf and 1..2..3.. im hired as a brand new employee ... PLUSSS MOST railroads as i just found out LOVEE to hire from within and less from the outside!!!!!!!!! Just passing the good word to all my fellow railroad family :) !!!!!!!! HAPPY JOB HUNTING TO YOU ALL WHOMEVER IS STILL TRYING THIER HARDEST TO GET IN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HEY dont EVER GIVE UPPPPP !!!!!!!!!!!!
PS ... THIS ADVISE IS FOR ALL types of railroad .... class I, II, even III
