Is my age (44) going to hurt me in trying to land a job with CSX or any other railroad?

Any idea what the training is like in GA. Just wondering if it is more training or actual tests.

Frank68 - Still in limbo. Not sure why I haven't heard anything. There was only 22 guys and 5 job offers. But, he did say something about some call backs which I was thinking the call backs would have been notified or something that way they could plan on getting stuff around just in case.

Thank you Sean!! Hey Volusia, hang in there, hopefully they will be calling you real soon. I know I still have to get to that part myself. It is just a wait and see after the interview but if you are confident you did well then believe that they will call you and keep positive!

I have tried to get a interview at Nashville before. I am going for Freight Conductor. I dont have any experience in track maintence or car repair. So my experience is limited to operations.

BRPBEARS. My training class of 18 has me, 46 in 3 months, a 43,42,41,38, and an 19 year old, and the others range from 23 to about 31 (UP here). Not to get sidetracked off the topic, but I didn't worry about my age. Railroads want maturity;Being in decent shape for your age is important, as is having the demonstrated ability TO GET ALONG WELL WITH MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF PEOPLE. There is not ONE knucklehead in my class. Everyone is extremely squared away, has good manners, was raised in an old fashioned and decent upbringing, and have interesting backgrounds, and are basically, GOOD PEOPLE. In today's "instant gratification/information me generation" and "what can I get and why are you taking soooooo long to appease my immediate demands" attitude, it's refreshing to be enclosed in a room six hours a day, six days a week with these people. So to get off my soapbox, if you are of good character and have a pleasant personality, with the potential to work safely in the extremely dangerous job, you should have a fine chance. Go for it !

Back when I got hired in 2004 there was a guy in our class who one night got drunk and showed up late for class... he was immediately fired... Once in a while a dumb ass gets hired and it sucks for everyone else who has to work with them..

Hey 012LDY,Great way to put it! Good luck with training. I hope I can get to training myself.... Just a few more steps to get through. I am 42 and I can relate to what you stated as well.

Hey Keldrick, Where did you apply? It took me almost 6 months for my status to change and it depends where you applied too. Just keep hanging in there. It can take a while. I am sure that you have heard that the Railroad can take their time with the hiring process.

I applied for a Track Worker position in South Georgia

Keldrick, Ok depending on how busy the area is and when they need trackworkers is when you should see some activity in your profile. They usually wait until they are going to need new people for the position before they have a hiring session. They do not want to train you then have you wait around for an opening. They could also still be going through apps.and screening them before they start selecting anyone. No news is good news for you right now because as long as you DO NOT get an email saying not selected then you are still good to go. You have to keep checking your profile and submission status. You want it to say "pending manager interview". That is when you are invited to a hiring session and an email will soon follow with the place, time and date. Good Luck! and hang in there.
