In my previous post, I stated the job was a comm tech. To be more specific, its actually Communication Maintainer.

865scott, I believe you are in the pool of selected individuals to sort through on hiring. I would be excited but at the same time get your things in order. Be prepared to leave for a length of time for training. You may never know with the railroad, you can be called at a moments notice for your job.

I applied for that position in Cincinnati (where i live) last week and already got denied. Funny thing is that I have been in that industry (data cabling, computers, running wire in finished businesses and all out construction sites) for over 12 years. I thought I was well qualified, even had a good resume laid out based on all the info from this site and the ebook. Called hr about something not related and was able to get the hr guy to tell me I passed the online assessment test. I got a steady work history, the only thing on my criminal record is one freaking speeding ticket, don't drink, smoke or anything. Ugh!!! Same thing for the last couple years over and over. Maybe it wasn't meant to be since I really want the conductor position. Maybe its because I was never in the military or finished college. I think I am at the perfect age even (33.) Sorry for the venting....it's so frustrating.

You are good FASTVSIX. That is why this forum is open. If it were me, If you have time, get out a good clean piece of paper, look into the resume portion of the forum and write out a similiar resume to ones that were hired. Start out fresh. You have the heart to get hired, now you just have to put it all together with your experience on paper.

Thanks mshaffer. If I get denied for any of the 5 conductor apps that I have active right now for csx alone (3 for ns) I am going to start fresh. I have already based my resume on some winning ones on this site. My current resume is still brand new to me.

I have an idea for a sticky thread. We need a "resume hall of fame" thread. It would feature all the resumes that have won an individual a job or at least an interview session (which I haven't even got yet.) I know there a lot in the resume thread but a lot of those aren't the updated ones people submitted or at least that's what I get from reading that thread....in which I have done about 10 times in the last couple months.

FASTVSIX... I am sure it is frustrating man. The " Resume Hall of Fame" I am sure would go to John, the 150 or so apps and got hired by two railroads.... ya that guy. He doesn't brag.... But we are secrectly jealous of the dude. Haha! Just kidding John! He was relentlous, FASTVSIX, he changed his way of thinking, he went to interviewers in the area he applied. They say people make a difference, and the person that interviews you can make a difference in your life. John was able to read people with the interviews he attended and prevailed. Just the same as you can creating a winning Resume, I wouldn't give up. We are here to help and if you have more questions... Ask away. It is a numbers game along with experience. If you put your heart into your resume just as you did within your latest post... you will see results. Another thing, brush up on your math if that is the case with your assesment test that you take when you apply. If you notice, you will take multiple assesment tests when you do apply, do not race through them... take your time and be right with the answers.

    Hello Sean and All

I got in the door to be a freight conductor with CSX last October. I got my offer letter, but had to pass all of the back ground and physical. I did well on the physical and background but didn’t past the Color blind test. I am able to see REDS, Yellows, and Green, but didn’t pass the Ishihara Color Blind test. Do you or some one know how I can appeal this ruling? I have passed everything else but that.

    Can you help me??

And I can't seem to get the number to the HR to ask how to go about it. It's not a major disability but none the less it's there can anyone help me out here ?

Bakerfj: If you feel there was an error with the test, then you might be able to go to your eye doctor and have him test you to see if you can pass it. If you succeed there, I would call your HR contact back who you dealt with and tell them your situation. Be advised that they will not accept your doctors note as the test. IF they agree to let you test again it will be at a CSX approved facility.

If you actually failed it then there is no appeal. You have to be able to pass it to work in the field. Seeing the individual colors is not sufficient.

Went to do my strength test today, it was not to bad it was over in about a hour. I feel I did well, it went just like everyone said it would go. If you are in good shape you will do just fine just make sure you get a good night sleep before you go.

@AmK it can take awhile to hear from them..just keep an eye on it there's no reason to get worked up..when I went for my interview they sent me a email with dates and times then 2 days before the interview they sent me another one. They will get ahold of you at there convenience usually there is only one or two people that do hiring for 3 or 4 states so there very busy

Hey guys, I applied for a job as a CSX conductor out of Chicago, Il. I bought Sean's Ebook(which was an absolute godsend) and studied it and wrote a COMPLETELY new resume. We had a hiring session yesterday, and 12 people showed up. I think they said they are looking for 50+ conductors. Needless to say, I got the conditional offer of employment call this morning and am RIDICULOUSLY excited about the job prospect! The resume was KEY. I loaded it with key words that actually pertained and my job descriptions spoke for themselves. Now on to the background/strength/drug test! Thanks Sean!!

I know we've said it before on here and believe me, I know it's the hardest part of the process but patience is not only a virtue, it's an absolute necessity when dealing with the railroad. When I applied, I submitted my online application in March and it was September before I heard anything. Then after I took the online assessments it was another month, etc, etc. If it says that you will be contacted, then have faith - you will be contacted. The online status is very accurate. They are hiring like crazy and there are only a few people handling the process. Just stay ready. You may not get much notice before they need you to move to the next step. That's part of it too, flexibility.

Ok guys...I just received the congrats email and an invitation to the final step of the hiring process for a Chicago dispatcher position. Pretty pumped about it. I just don't want to be away from my wife and daughter for 2 1/2 freaking months for training but I guess that needs to be done if I get picked. Anybody else going to the interview?

Bring them with you if she does not work! It's better than 3 months in Marine Corps bootcamp where you don't even see a female for 90 days!
