Still alive and kicking and waiting for a positive email. I applied for about 5 freight conductor position in OH, TN and IN plus a
field clerk position in OH and Sarnia, Canada. Now Sarnia is only about 3 hrs from me but due to the border patrol stuff I doubt I would get that position. I am so glad all of the friends I have met on the forum are getting jobs. Now it is my turn. Everyone stay safe and good luck to all the new people on the site.

Sean, I have purchased your book, very informative! A quick question- Do you recommend creating my resume to look like the one you have? Or leave mine as is with placing safety in spots where it applies?

Tim, the resume was an example, not a template. Do what you feel like. I didn't use Sean's example, I made mine the way I wanted and it worked first time around.

Hey Everyone, Just checking in and seeing how everybody is. I am still waiting for the call with my start date at REDI in Atlanta for training. I finished all of my pre- employment screening on April 26th. I am getting into that time frame where I should hear something within a week or 2. Hope all is well and if anybody has any CSX hiring process questions I will do my best to answer them for you.

Well, I applied for an open Conductor position and a Track Worker position with CSX. Odd, there was more to the Track Worker application, took the reading comprehension, math, and so forth.

Frank58-Can you give some specifics on the interview. I'm scheduled for hiring session/interview this Thurday the 26th, for freight conductor chicago. And do they offer the job that day, or at a later time? Thanks.

I'm new to the forum. I applied for UP, CSX, BNSF and NS for three yrs. before purchasing Sean's ebook. Bought the book, followed the guidelines, applied July '10 for a CSX Clerk (field) position (using Sean's resume template), interviewed in Aug '10, job offered in Sep. '10, began 1st wk of Oct. '10. Work as Clerk / Wagonmaster (taking crews to and from trains throughout the region, checking consists, running updated train orders and supplies). I love my job! Thanks, Sean!
Just a few pointers...be professional and reserved. Don't be overly talkative, and be ready for those interview questions (Why should we hire you, etc.). And when you go to work, ask lots of questions and listen...don't talk, don't give your opinions, no matter how nonmsensical something may seem...railroads have run things their own way for 160+ years, you're not going to change things...Listen, learn, adapt your thinking, make no day-to-day plans away from the RR. They will own all of your time. Understand this going in, and you can enjoy your job. I will be 50 years old this year...best move I ever made.

I am interviewing with CSX Thursday morning for a dispatcher position. Any tips or insider look at questions that will be asked in the interview. I am already prepared to take notes, but would like some more ideas of what to expect. Thanks.

I got a call Tues, May 31st, with job offer for freight conductor chicago. I'm now waiting for emails with instructions for physical, drug test, and background check.
My interview was pretty easy. No surprises. Most of the questions I got I anticipated and had good answers prepared. Only took about 10-12 minutes.

hello everyone! my name is Colin and i am from cork city in the republic of Ireland, i am 30 yrs of age. i am working with Irish rail for 13 yrs since, i was 17, straight from school, the railway is all i really know in which i do genuinely love. my position in the railway is a train guard,in the last 13 years i have swept platforms, worked level crossings, shunted trains, ticket checking and have done courses on signals. this year i am applying to be a train driver as there are vacancies and hopefully god is good and i be successful... anyway... the reason I'm writing here is I'm seriously considering in moving to Canada with my wife before i hit 40 yes its 10 years but i would rather go to Canada looking for a job with train driving experience opposed to having lesser qualifications, but i really haven't a clue who to really talk to who has inside knowledge on how the railway works at canadian pacific, like would they hire someone at 40 or am i wasting my time altogether with this idea in which i constantly think of doing for a change in my life, i just think Canada is a fantastic country... and i love the railways there! is there anybody over there that can help i would hugely appreciate it..... does anyone know anybody that works in candian railways that would help!? its frustrating trying to contact someone here from ireland, i just need that first step in finding someone who is actually working on the ground and know the railway inside out that would be willing just to shout whats the best way to go about this mammoth task

    @wagonmaster1 Good job man!
@zzsheepy They won't even consider you until you are actually living in Canada and able to work. Then you need to apply using what is taught in the RR jobs guide e-book. Good luck!

Yes! Yes! I am already making flashcards for the signals aspects and indications I have to learn for my territory. Also awaiting my REDI e-mail packet that should be here sometime before the end of the week. I feel so relieved and drained today. I had to go down to my current job and give notice after 17 1/2 years. Needless to say they had a hard time with it. Oh well! But hey, I cannot be happier myself!! I am starting a real career now with CSX.

Great job Frank! You flying or driving to REDI? Atlanta is going to be hot. I have my physical capabilities and physical/drug test this week for CSX. I should be in the next class at REDI probably starting when your class finishes. I can't wait to get away from my wife and kids for 6 weeks! That's the icing on the cake for me. Send a post or two from school just so we know what the experience is like in Atlanta.

Hey mjenn66, I will be flying down. I should have my REDI packet tomorrow or so. Yes after your physical it can take just about 6 weeks to get the call. I was 2 days shy of 6 weeks when I got the call this past Sunday. Good luck with everything and I will be posting in here whileI am at REDI. Who knows, you may get the call sooner if you are needed at your yard. It all depends on the process.Start studying the signals for your territory!

How can you study the signals in your territory? Can you get a book on the signals in your area?

Find out what signals are for your territory and search them. We have the (CR) Conrail Signals in Albany Division.

i would not study anything until you get to the training. Relax and enjoy your time before you get to training because once you get there you will be studying non stop!

Has anyone heard of CSX freezing hiring sessions due to the fact of the fatal crash in Charlotte, NC on May 23, 2011?
