Just received my start date for REDI Center!!
My question now is should I drive or fly? I'd be grateful if someone can discuss if there's enough free time during training to make driving a worthwhile choice. I understand that most of my time will be committed to classes and studying. But I'm thinking, 6wks without a car in a city spread out like Atlanta might be a real handicap.
Any thoughts would be hugely appreciated.

I would drive... I did drive and everyone in my class flew. They were stuck there within walking distance. Plus, I made $792.00 in mileage. :)

@ mshaffer3371; Sounds good! I'll be driving down from Philadelphia PA - not a short distance, but it sounds that it's well worth the drive to have your car with you. Were you able to manage some free time while there - and still do all the required studying.
I hear that the Conductor class requires a lot of time and dedication. I'm definitely prepared to do what it takes.

JJordan. Yes, you can do things while down there... you gotta grocery shop sometime to eat. The local stores next to the hotels are expensive, I drove to walmart and was able to buy a weeks worth of groceries for 3 days that would have been purchased at the local shops. You are right, you will need to study like a madman too.

You can do it as long as you are doing well in class and test scores 80'Hockey. My wife and I met every two weeks, she drove down after two weeks then we me met after another two weeks half way. It was a good trip from extreme Northern Indiana to Georgia. You will be more comfortable driving regardless and be compensated accordingly.
You can't have sex in two different cities!

I was at the REDI center today to do my strength test today, I would also say you need to drive you do not want to get stuck there or in your room the whole time after all is not going to be a big room. I guess I have been married to long because the first thing out my wifes mouth was your going to be gone for six week -allright- I thought I was the one that got to say that?

Drive. Everyone I knew who flew, regreted it. You will go nuts without a car. I studied very hard the first 2 weeks or so and did well on quizes and tests, and started learning my signals asap. That allowed me to relax and glide through the final 3 or 4 weeks and keep my GPA pretty high. After Midterm it gets alot easier. I went downtown Atlanta several weekends, Braves game, shopping malls, sites, attractions, bars, tubing on river, etc. You need weekends off to clear your head, and you will want a car if you want to have some fun.
mjenn66 is right... Just remember though when you see a yellow signal when driving a car you should stop at that signal. Just don't proceed to the next and then prepare to stop at that next signal... That will probably get your ass in trouble, but a good excuse and a long conversation with a cop later on. Haha! After you all get through school you will laugh at this.
