I also have a hiring session for NS tommorow. I got a call last night saying what to bring and it was hard to understand. I called back but no answer. I heard to bring a black or blue pen and two forms of ID but it sounded like she said something before that.

Hello all, new to the form. My question is who do I list as a contact for NS on my cover sheet for my resume for the conductor position in Binghamton New York location.

@Joseph I don't understand your question. The only info on your cover sheet is yours...

I guess what I am asking is do I put down to whom it may concern or address it to the HR dept. I thought it would be better to be more personable, to have someones name to send it to.

You don't need a cover letter, they won't even really take a huge look at your resume unless you get an interview.

    Cire,

Well, there were 40 people at the session and 13 got an interview. I was number 6 to interview and the interview was much easy than I expected. Mostly alot of question about my application and my education. I have a college degree and they kept pounding that and asked a few questions about it. So, I think it went pretty well so now i'm just playing the waiting game. Also, I have a question. Later that day I got a email saying I had been declined and I thought I was. Then after checking the email a couple more times I realized the job numbers were different. The one I was declined on was for another conductor positon I had applied for. Does anyone think they could of made a mistake or am I still good because they did say it would be 3 to 5 days to hear something.

    @Travis
If it was a different job number then you're fine!
What did you do to get the interview?
    Congrats!

    Cire,

I have no idea like Sean and Freewood say the railroad hires in weird ways. I sat in the front row, listened to directions, I passed the test. The HR lady actually asked me a few questions at the "scary speech" and I answered them. I thought alot of guys asked stupid questions during the scary speech that could of hurt their chances but I don't know.

Well, just did my second hiring session. No interview. I can't improve anything I do there. Makes no since.

My H.R. guy for U.P. said no question is stupid. He wanted you to ask those stupid question in front of everyone so he wouldnt have to answer them all during break individual.

Anyways I put my interview on the line and I wouldnt suggest this to anyone but, the H.R. guy said the start date for the training was May 9th. Here comes the gutsy part and all you guys are going to laugh because some of the guys in class did.

I ask him "What time?" and he said "7:30 a.m." I said " I will be there". Talk about being gutsy but, so far I have not been cut from the group yet. Still waiting for answer.

Hey Guys, I had an interview last Tuesday for the track laborer and past the test and got an interview. They asked me what makes you different from anybody else that will come in here? So, I said I am a hard worker that is very safety oriented and (something about longevity.) Don't remember exactly what I said about longevity.
What I would like to know is how long do they take to contact you via email you or a phone call. I haven't heard anything from them one way or the other. They said I would hear from them in 3 to 5 days but I haven't heard anything yet. This was my fourth interview session, but only my 2 interview. Should I chalk this one for the birds too, or do you think I may be still in the running? I thought for sure that I would get called but nothing yet.

OH well. Let me know you think? Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them?

    JM,

I'm in the same situation but my interview last Tuesday was for a conductor. They should call you if they offer you a spot or email you if you are declined. I know i'm starting to get a little worried to. They told us 3 to 5 days also which it could be business days and day 5 wouldn't be until tommorrow.

thanks for the information. I had an interview for conductor on Thursday. That interview session I didn't get an interview. But, I am still hoping and praying for the track laborer position. I will let you know what happens if I hear from them.

They always say 3-5 days but it can take longer. Usually no news means good news though.
Also check your spam filter folder in your email box just to be safe.

So Sean, do you know what NS are doing within the 3-5 days? I mean do they do a back ground check before they call you or why do they take so long? I know the people that interviewed me have been traveling all over the state to hold interviewing sessions all last week and part of this week as well. So, I guess my questions are since no news means hopefully goods news then. Since I haven't heard anything as of yet, I still think the interview went well. BUT WE SHALL SEE!! HOPEFULLY THEY WILL CALL WITH AN OFFER!!

Travis, I haven't heard anything as of yet, Have you heard anything from NS on your interview? I guess we can chalk this one up for the birds. I don't think they are going to call or send an email. I haven't gotten an email or a phone call. I just was wwondering? Please let me know if and when you hear anything.

Sean, do you think we will actually hear from NS? Does this happen alot and does the RR companies ever/ or never contact you either way after an interview after the 3-5 days?

    JM,

I had another hiring session this past Tuesday and got the interview. Right before we took the test I heard the trainer guy say, "none of those guys from last week are going to hear anything because the HR lady is out of town". So there was only me and one other guy in this session that got the interview the week before. We talked before the session started and he said he hadn't heard anything either. The HR called his name and took him out in the hall right before the test. Then the HR guy called the HR guy from last time and then they dimissed that guy so i'm pretty sure he got the offer from that first session.

So, no JM I haven't heard anything on either session but I pretty sure I know why. I expect to hear something next week when she gets back. But i'm sure they will contact you one way or the other.

You got a hiring session. I got NOTHING AT ALL. No hiring session for this person for any position at NS (Corporate Headquarters) Norfolk VA. NOTHING

@Chilly don't feel bad about not getting a call. I have applied at NS and CSX for 2 yrs. Haven't heard a word from either one of them except for they would send the email saying I was not selected for a hiring session. March 31st was the first time I received anything back from a railroad and it was wth UP in Seattle. The strange thing about call was I only put in one application for that railroad and that is the one that called. IDK why they selected me but I was glad to get the oppertunity just to share my experience in person. Keep plugging away and don't get frustrated because that one time you don't fill out the application might be the one that calls. Good luck.

I have looked through the other post but could not find it in the other sections. My question is I was wondering if NS was still ranked the number 4 largest class I railroad as of right now.
