Fastvsix, yep..HR gave me a list of things to do, they didnt work. I tried on 4 different computers,i think its in there because i can parse it, just cant access it? ?

Oh and while i had HR on the phone i asked about tobacco use and she said it doesnt matter, the wellness people just wanna know how many "users" they're hiring.

@Farley1 UT in Knoxville used to have one, not sure if they still do

That's the same thing that happens to me. I can't view it or download it like I can on csx's site but it does parse. Parsing it, by the way, is not recommended if you already filled out your work history and all the details. I spent an hour filling it all out, then parsed my resume. Well, it erased all my work. Just a warning.

Anyone know how long it will be before I hear anything? I remember when I applied to BNSF before it wasn't a week before I was invited to the pre-interview screening. didn't know how fast or slow NS is with their responses.

I got a rejection notice within 48hours for both jobs I applied for. Pretty fast if you ask me.

Hello, second time posting here, last time I was complaining that I was turned down for a position to one of three other people who were under dressed. Well, a new wrench was just thrown into the works that I need some insight on. Sorry that it may be a little long and too detailed, in advance.

As I said, two months ago I was turned down but during the interview I was asked questions leaning towards the communication technician job instead of the job I was there to interview for which was the apprentice signal trainee position. At the time of the interview I worked in a contract position as a Video Network Engineer, but I knew it was only temporary and it ended three weeks ago but my previous employer took me back with open arms as a video headend/hub technician last Monday. Needless to say I have only been back for one week.

Today on my way home from working out of town I got a call from the HR guy Chuck who interviewed my previously. He asked if I would be interested in going through a special interview for a communication technician position in Ft Wayne Indiana. I would be going to the Job location where I would be working to interview with a local HR and the Supervisor for the position, there would be no competition as it would be just me.

I had to explain to him that I just started a new job and the reasons why also explained to him that I get a % of disability from the VA for back, ankle, shoulder and PTSD issues and that I was afraid I may be wasting my time. He said that part is not up to him but as he sees it, I currently work a job as physical is not more physical than the position at NS so I should be fine. All the interviews, physical and background check could be done without my current employers knowledge and if I didn't get it, there is no harm, no foul.

Does this sound promising. Should I go for it? Has anyone heard of the railroad looking for a candidate to fill a position not applied for?

Thank in advance for the insight.

That means they like you for that position. Go for it! What have you got to lose?

i'd have to agree. it's a foot in the door. Heck if was offered another position for something other than what I applied for...I'd take it just for the foot in the door.

    Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the new website and resubmitting my application. So far in the application process I have been asked to complete the assessment test online and once completed I would hear a response in about 2 weeks -- this was on January 10th. I completed my original application before the January 5th cut-off date of their new website. So my question is whether or not I will be able to continue the process of my application if I haven't completed the new website application? Since I received the email for the assessment test on the 10th, I assume they still have my application information and will contact me once they review my online assessment. In the meantime should I complete the new application? I already went and registered, but still need to go through the process of finishing the application. It has taken me a month to get this point and hope that I don't have to restart the process.

    Thanks

    Hello,

I too have a similar situation, I have an interview on Feb,3rd from a job I put in for under the "old" NS system and under the "new" system it won't allow me to "parse" my resume, I was wondering if I'm supposed to do the "test" online or at the interview? the email only stated to bring I.D. and "Prior to attending this recruiting session, please go to the Norfolk Southern Careers site and make sure that your application is completely up-to-date". which my application is up to date under the "old" system, does anyone have any feedback as in "if I'm good to go under the "old" system" or do I need to re-submit everything into the "new" system and try to go from there? thanks, Tom

So I went to my first testing session today....I was 10 min late! Drove 3 hours, made sure I had an extra hour just in case something happend. Well it did got lost couldn't find the place. Walked in, and the doors were already shut. So I apologized and explained what happened, and surprisingly the instructor let me stay. I took the test and passed, got an interview. Everything seemed to go well, and I'm just waiting to hear back from them. Said it may be a couple of days. Being late, I didn't think I'd be able to stay, let alone get an interview. Everything came on so fast that I wasn't able to get any books or e-mails. All I found was this forum yesterday. The forum looks like it will be a great help, and I'll keep reading the posts, and let you know what happens on my end.

New poster here... I have read that NS has a new application website... does anyone have the exact web address. The site I have used all along still allows log-in etc., but the job postings have changed/disappeared. I was scheduled to attend a hiring session (in Roanoke, VA) for a Fireman & Oilers position on Tuesday (01/24/2012), but the session was cancelled on the Friday before (via email and phone call). The session is not rescheduled. I don't want to fall through the cracks while NS upgrades its applications process. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I recently posted about an out of ordinary intervie

w session with the local signal department at NS in Ft Wayne Indiana. I was able to schedule an interview for this morning and it was a completely different feel than the normal hiring sessions. They asked me a few questions on my resume then showed me around the office where I will/would be working. They acted like the job was already mine.

At the end they said I should be hearing from the HR rep on details as needed. I think the job is mine if I can pass the physical with back, ankle, and shoulder injuries.

    Wish me luck.

I have a question about the caree search for NS I already have a pending manager interview for csx but I don't want to put all my eggs in basket for rail career. I can't find any job listings for buffalo NY and surrounding area for NS I did great an account on the site wondering if it s just me or maybe there not hiring in our area

    @jrudd Good luck!

@BLBconcrete It's mostly how to get hired.

@brzconst It is going to be similiar to what is in the ebook but they will ask you more questions pertaining to how you would handle different scenarios as a manager.

@AmK That means they are not hiring for that area.

Human resources semmed to be no help. I was selected for an interview at a recruiting session on January 17 for conductor(over 300 apps. 42 attended, 7 interviewed) and they told me the usual 3 to 5 business days for a response. I still have not heard anything so I called HR today. They told me the email can take a few weeks to recieve but if I had been chosen they would have contacted me in the 3 to 5 day window. I am glad I read on here or I would be completly discouraged.
