I was told this without my specific info being pulled also. I know from here it seems only 50% or so are contacted in the 3-5 days?

I decided to email them also. They sent me what seems to be a canned response for someone asking about their application when mine was specifically about my interview:

Although we cannot provide a specific timeframe in which you will be contacted, once your application has been reviewed by Human Resources, you will receive notification of your status via your e-mail address, regardless of the decision.

    Thank you,

NS HR is worthless..if you call the yard and ask for the trainer who did your interview (if you remember his/her name)..theyll give it to you straight and let you know you werent chosen

    **Update**

I went to my second interview, this one was with the local guys, where, if I get the job, I will be working. They expressed their interest very enthusiastically. Two days later I recieved the conditional offer for communications and electronics technician, and received the physical and background check information. I immediately filled out the paperwork and made my appointments. I completed everything yesterday, so now I wait for a school date with fingures firmly crossed.

So, within a week and a half I had an interview, an offer, and completed all my appointments. Everyone wish me luck.

    Thanks.

    gmonty,

I'm pretty site it is uploaded. I see its name but if I click it, it doesn't open it like I can on csx's site. But, I have not tried in a couple weeks....I will when I get home from work today....can't seem to get on their new job site using my droid phone.
I applied for about 5 jobs between Jan 5-10 and haven't heard anything back so far.
What sucks is I lost out on another local open hiring session. Looks like you need to subscribes to their Facebook page to get the announcements...which I did a few days ago.

Yeah your cell phone is not a good way to try and see job openings. It's a good idea to "Like" their facebook page!

Yes, I would never apply for anything using my phone. You can see how bad my phone postings are by trying to read the post I made above yours lol. I guess proof reading and phone posting do not go together for me. It is a good tool to compulsively check your job status every 10 minutes though haha

Btw, everyone interested in ns jobs should check out there Facebook page. If you look at all their previous posts on there, they announce local sessions and also update any company news on there...which may be good material for an interview.

    Sean,
If NS has called me and emailed me for a interview in Norfolk Virginia, what do I need to be prepared for as far as the position for Operations Supervisor Trainee - Communication & Signals. I would like to add that they are paying for my flight to and from Norfolk Va and the hotel is furnished as well, along with a debit card for transportation expenses. Is this normal?

Well, I have been doing some checking and it is normal for them to pay for transportation and hotel.

Thanks waty19 for your response. If you happen to have an email address or phone number for someone in human resources could you please send me a PM so that I can contact them. Gainesville is one that I have applied for and I really wish they would just give me a shot at a hiring session. Thanks for your help. Desperately needing a job.

Does NS look for more local applicants over re-locators?

@wvduckman Read the RR Jobs Guide e-book and this whole forum and you will do fine.

@fire7881 I have no idea on that one.

Hello I really need some help. I SUCK at math and I'm looking for examples of the math I will find on the NS conductor recruiting test. I really NEED a job BAD and I really WANT this job. Does anyone know of a web site where I can take practice recruiting test that may be the same as the one as NS uses? I even see high school and college kids seem to be able to find cheat sheets for there exams does anyone know if any of these are around for recruiting test? Don't worry I wouldn't be asking or trying to find cheats for anything if I was able to make it to McDonough I'm just trying to get there. Once I'm there I plan on paying attention to EVERYTHING to keep me safe as well as everyone else. I know cheating is bad but I just don't know it.

Thanks whether you able to answer or not I wish everyone and there families the very best!!!!

@waty19 at least you'll be going against traffic. I'm local too, I live a little under 1h 20min away. Going against traffic all the way through 20 and 285. So that's why I'll be spending the night before hand. So there isn't any surprises.

Hi Sean, I recently recieved a rejection email for a track laborer job in my state. Unlike others this one said others were more qualified for this position. This is my seventh time applying for Norfolk Southern and my question is with 6 years of retail experience and 2 years of industrial experience with the emphasis of my involvement in safety as explained in your E-book am I low on experience for the railroad and why are they not interested. Thanks

Does anyone know what Union covers the Communications and Electronic technician in the Communications&Signals department?

@Terrance Are you putting the Industrial experience first on your resume? I would focus on the industrial experience in your resume and not the retail..

    @jrudd Google is your friend.

SWEET! I got invited to the recruiting session!!! But i'm very confused.
I applied on the old system & the new. Both have the same information. One got rejected the new & one got approved the old.
I wasn't going to apply on both but then I seen they were going to a new system. So I applied with the new system. It's crazy. Both application say the exact same thing. Resume & all. One gets accepted the other does not....lol Doesn't matter I got the approval letter & that all I need!!!

@Mprather91 I don't blame you. Last think you want to happen is arrive at 8:02am and watch them lock you out. I'll probably leave around 6am and just catch a few ZZZ's in the car if I'm there real early! Best of luck to you. Keep me updated after the hiring session.

@waty19 Thanks! Same to you. Did you get a call from Norfolk making sure you were coming to the hiring session? They called me today and told me to bring a government issues ID.

@Mprather91 Yea they called me this morning when I was at breakfast. I was thinking its 10am on a Saturday and their calling about a job?! I was kind of impressed they had their HR team working on the weekends.
