Tallent93 ... JOBS come and GO off websites thru different railroads....... BUT as long as u applied Tallent93 your good to go just EXPECT a response either in a short period of time or it all depends on what they want ... can be up to 6 months depending on what railroad u applied for!!!

I have been invited to a NS recruiting session:) My question is about my experience with CSX with a contract security company. Would it be ok to mention the CSX name? I ask that because at my current employer I am a security guard and we do get to be out there with CSX during their track switches. We even get to listen and communicate with them on a CSX radio. It is an awesome experience I want to talk about and I wonder if NS will listen. This experience has made me a foamer.

@Machinist817 I called this morning, but didn't talk to a live person. I left a message on a voicemail where they ask you to state why you calling, so far no call/email back yet

Thanks...I'm excited & nervous all the same time. Your book has been a huge help. I'll be using it as an aid with the interview. If I don't get hired I won't be mad but as a learning tool for the next time.

Hey everyone. I just got out of the Army after 4 years and applied to be a signal apprentice here in Chicago. I have no idea what to do or what to expect. I know I just applied yesterday but I'm really excited and would love to work for the railroad. Also I have veterans preference plus a purple heart. Are there any other veterans in here or anyone who would know if that would be a plus? Any ideas on what to do to maybe make myself stand out more? It's a tough time for veterans to transition and get good jobs. I just want to be one of the ones who keeps moving forward and can continue to do great things for his country.

    Thanks,
    Rangers lead the Way.

@markreule5....I greatly appreciate your tremendous service to keep me and my family safe, That is not a light hearted statement my friend. The railroad loves hiring former military service people. If you follow Sean's book, I am sure you will do fine. Remember you are a team player, we all look out for eachother. Hopefully see you out there somewhere as a fellow brother.

markreule5, thankyou for your service, the rr's do support veterans, and look to give them preferencial consideration. Follow mshaffer3371's advice and get Sean's e-book. Good luck & ooh hah!!!

DavidJM I would just list the company you work for, if they ask for details about your job duties & responsibilities feel free to make mention of your exposure to CSX as a contract worker for another co.

There were 72 people at my hiring session and at the very begining they asked the verterans to raise our hands then the HR guy thanked us for our service in front of everyone. There was only like 6 of us.

@karly they were probably figuring out who the vet's were so they could keep an eye on them to hire them first if they could fog a mirror..

I applied for a conductor's position for NS about a week ago. My status shows "In process" so I'm guessing that NS is waiting for more apps since the job has been open for almost a month. One question on the application has bothered me "Have you been convicted of any moving traffic offenses in the last 5 years?" I answered it truthfully and stated that I received a "failure to yield" ticket. With every industry promoting "safety safety safety". Is this going to hurt my chances? Any comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

LMC - failure to yield is no problem and being truthfull is the best approach. I had a Neg 1 and still got hired

Thanks ALB. If I ever make it to an interview session, I hope they don't ask me to explain the violation.
