Well something that concerns me is my weight. I mean I'm DEFINANTLY not obese I am 5'9" and weighed in at 230. I mean I know I have weight to lose but I am an avid lifter and most of it is muscle.

If that's the numbers they get at your physical for weight and heigth, I think you'll pass. that comes out to a 34 BMI, and everything I've read is it's a pretty firm line at 35. I've not read of anyone having issue below 35, but several have over 35 even if they say they are in shape with very low body fat.

Just hang in there. You may get asked for some extra tests or something like that, but depending on the rest of your physical results, you may be fine!Posted 2 months ago # -
OK, how do they come by those numbers to determine bmi based on wieght & hieght? They seem extremely arbitrary.

There's actually a complex formula to get an extremely accurate measurement for an average human being. If you're a 3% body fat professional weight lifter it won't work, and an immersion test is the only way to figure out fat percentage. Also, if you're a virus freak, giant or dwarf, probably not gonna be accurate. But for the rest of us (99%+), it's a pretty fair measuring stick. As to whether or not 35 is an arbitrary number or not, there is a significantly increased likelihood of obesity induced sleep apnea above that threshold.
