    OK, I am bad at this resume thing. I have redone mine about 50 times now. This is the final one I came up with based on the ebook example. It's for a conductor position. I took what csx was looking for and put it all under the qualifications heading. check it out, I'm happy with this one. Just sent it to ns and csx. This is not the format it was sent in though.

    @kv Take this line off: - SAFTEY is a MUST !!!! If you are not safe or pay attention to detail then you or your other diver could be serioulsy injured or dead. SO SAFTEY IS THE KEY FACTOR.
    It's not needed. Rest looks real good.

    @fast looks good man!

    I will take a crack at it....but its only my opinion...

    I would fashion it more in the style mine is above yours.

    Work history....I would list the actual companies you worked for.

    Education. I can't see if you graduated high school or college.

    I would change your title of work history to relevant experiences or something like that.

    Add work history at the bottom and list the companies and dates you worked

    Take what I said though lightly because I haven't been hired yet with mine....but haven't been denied yet either. The resume is new for me but mine is based off all the ones on this site that worked. A little trick....go to the "just hired thread," click on each persons name and look at their previous posts. Some take you right to their resume in this thread. A lot of them all look the same.....and they all worked. Mine follows their resume recipe to a tee. I have been studying the success stories on this site (study the failure stories too.) It takes some time, but the info is out there and is very solid. Found a couple other sites too. Combined with the ebook, my confidence level in obtaining a rr job is very high right now.

    I'll post the resume I used in my 2 applications to UP. I got interviews with both applications and a final offer on the second. The first application was for freight car repair and the second was train crew. I didn't even bother replacing the shop tools on qualifications for train crew. I think it needs to be short and sweet.

    One other thing that I did was call a couple of State Senators and told them what a big supporter I was and asked if they might be able to give me a reference to anyone at the railroad. The railroads have lobbyist and I thought it couldn't hurt. Not sure if it helped, but I really wanted the job and wanted to do everything I could to get it.

    So should I just add education. I'm leery of adding work history on my resume. My work history doesn't show stability. I did some research online & that was the format they suggested. Is it bad format? Fire departments in Delaware aren't as stable as I am looking for. They have more turn over than a Wal-Mart. IMHO it's just poor management.

    I had the opportunity to have lunch with one of the top managers from Northfork Southern today. I don't want to repeat the name or gender. I wanted to post the content of the meeting to possibly help others with their resume. First, off this was not a business meeting and the only reason I got to sit down with this manager was because of a long country club affiliation with my family....I was with my family at this lunch.

    I showed my resume and asked for pointers for being hired at NS. My resume was about 2 pages long and basically it got shot down right on the spot. Right out of the gate, "A resume is just a timeline, Anything over 1 page long is too long."

    They read through tons of these on a daily basis. They don't need every little detail. I was told that most of the successful resume's are short to the point and basically make the timeline easily readable (i.e. on the right side have the numbers). They will find out everything else that they need to know in the following hiring process.

    Take it for what its worth. This was just the opinion of one individual. Hopefully it helps.

    What am I doing wrong? I've been "not selected" for 2 areas now? Only thing I can think of is that I put that I checked no for the question of "can I make it in within 2 hours if called."
    I answered it truthfully only because I haven't relocated there. I'm so freaking confused with these railroads.
