Already? I seriously think that if you answer no to a relocation question or one like you did, their software immediately rejects the application.

@ Fire.. fastvsix is correct, very correct. Even though safety is top priority on the railroad, they have to get the trains to each location on time. That is how they make money and if there is any doubt you can't meet that request, you will not be selected. If you are willing to relocate and live beyond the 2 hour travel time and you are being of interest to the railroad... that is a good thing, that relocation thing is your only hurdle. Good luck!
Posted 3 months ago # -
Oh I'm on board for that. I just didn't know how to answer the application. I changed the answer to yes. Assuming I got the position, I would definately relocate to within less than 30 minutes.
Posted 3 months ago # -
So i've been turned down for an interview. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong.
Posted 3 months ago # -
Say yes to relocation if they ask that.... You have to be willing to be the RR bioootch..
Posted 3 months ago # -
lol Sean I if they ask that I always say yes...& I mean i'm willing to relocate! any where east of mississippi...lol

Hey guy/girls, what can I do to help my chances of seeking employment with CSX as a conductor or any other job for that matter? BTW I've had a position with CSX in the application pending review phase since October 2010! I know no news is good news but geez!
Posted 3 months ago # -
@darrendjy Your resume is too long and wordy.. You need to follow the outline that
is in the RR Jobs Guide e-book... that will work better for you..Posted 3 months ago # -
The captain of the local volunteer fire department wants me to join. I'd have to take a 56 hour course to qualify. I am thinking of doing this.....it has to look good on a rr resume I would think. Going over the pros and cons of joining, I will admit being able to add this to my resume is one of the main pros.

SWEET! I got invited to the recruiting session with Norfolk Southern!!! But i'm very confused.
I applied on the old system & the new. Both have the same information. One got rejected the new & one got approved the old.
I wasn't going to apply on both but then I seen they were going to a new system. So I applied with the new system. It's crazy. Both application say the exact same thing. Resume & all. One gets accepted the other does not....lol Doesn't matter I got the approval letter & that all I need!!!Posted 3 months ago # -
@ darrendjy and Sean
My resume is long, but organized. I had a professional write it when I got out of the military. Of course it was not cheap but the price came with 10 years free updates once a year. It is 2 pages long but I have three versions, one PDF, one Microsoft word, and a digital to cut and paste to job boards.
The digital version when pasted does not look much different than the one darrendjy added and I am currently going through the last phase of the physical process for Communications and Electronic Technician.

@jrudd
What people tend to not realize is that when you are applying for a RR job or a similar job, there may be hundreds of other applicants. In this case, HR will probably only look at your resume for 15-30 seconds. Otherwise, they would spend 2 weeks reviewing everyone's applications. This is why you must make sure your resume is short, concise, and has all the proper information on it to "stick-out" from others.
A longer version of your resume would be ideal if you were applying for a job that only has a few applicants because you would want to ensure you get every last detail on there. However, jobs with this many applicants are the exception.
Posted 3 months ago # -
but if both are the same then why accept one & not the other? I don't get the thinking.
Posted 3 months ago # -
@fire7881
It's not about whether or not they accept one over the other. If HR sits down and reads your entire resume, and it takes them 5 minutes to read it, then good for you. You'll probably get invited to an interview. The fact is, though, that 99% of the time they will only take a few seconds to review it because they have to go through hundreds of applications and resumes.
Think about it in terms of time. If HR receives 200 applications for a conductor job, that means they must review 200 resumes. If they take 5 minutes to review each resume it will take them almost 17 hours. Not gonna happen!!!
Posted 3 months ago # -
I'm just glad I got invited. Now I have to get ready. I can honestly say that your book has been a HUGE help.
Posted 3 months ago # -
I suppose you could be right, I can see that a shorter, to the point resume could be more affective. I know that I got a conditional offer and am almost through the process with my longer 2 page resume.
Maybe it was just a coincidence that I got through with it, but it worked. I have been to three interview sessions. One while I was still in the army and was given a conditional offer but had to turn it down because I could not get out of the army in time, the second I was interviewed but was turned down, and now this one.
If you are having doubts about your resume, certainly take the advice.
Posted 3 months ago # -
The only reason you got an interview was because you had "ARMY" at top of your resume...
Otherwise they never would have emailed you for an interview... Good luck!Posted 3 months ago # -
