Does anyone have any info on the dispatcher jobs? Tarrant County CC offers a training program for BNSF. Think this is the best way to get this job? I have 8 years in the militaty as a dispatcher for munitions. Any and all info will be helpful! Thanks again!

Check to see how the program works once you pass the course. Generally it's helpful if the course offers to get you an interview with BNSF after the course ends. If not, then at least you're getting something else on your resume that directly supports the job you want.
Good luck!

Did you apply for the most recent announcement with BNSF? I think it closed a week ago. Either way, if you want to go for the class then do it but myself am working on getting hired without it. I have a friend that is at BNSF now. He said that the class that went through Tarrant when he was in the BNSF class only hired abou 25% from Tarrant (4 out of 12 I think). I really dont want to fork out that kind of money for a 25% chance of getting hired. However I must say that I have Air Traffic Control experience and they mentioned that twice in their announcement.

I have a question for all of you. Being in the Air Force as a C-5 Loadmaster working with radios and comm equipment among many other things, am I a good candidate for a train dispatcher position? I know it prefers someone who as ATC experience, but I kinda have that. Ive talked to ATC multiple times when I would ride in the jumpseat on the airplane.

Yes i would apply with that experience..

I was a C-5 loadmaster too!! They hired me first interview first application as a conductor. Where were you stationed? there aren't to many C-5 bases left.

Point blank... The dispatcher position is not a light hearted duty. You will be stressed to the max until you can make every engineer happy and every conductor walk less miles. Good luck on that. I feel bad for dispatchers, they work hard... They truly do and it takes a ton of years to earn respect by the oldheads. Most think if you don't see the rail... You can't run the rail.

Best to get your foot in the door, I've seen Crew Dispatchers go to Train Dispatching within a year... If that's what your looking for. New contract for C/D is 30.50 per hr. T/D is 41.00 per hr.

My opinion is to be a conductor first then test for dispatcher position after a few years...

In my personal case, RTC is my ultimate goal within the RR (CN in my case) HR discussed this with me at my interview, (and subsequently since hiring on) and indicated that while they do occasionally hire externally, they far prefer those who have learned from within the ranks. (Specifically, where practicable, they now want all managers to have minimum Conductor but preferably Engineer training too) As such, they have already flagged my interest, and provided I keep my nose clean, I should reach my goal within about 5 years... (They also said, stay in touch with my HR rep on this... keep reminding them of the interest, and finding out about current status of opportunities within the steps.)

Hello all! I am new to the forum, and have a couple of questions. I have 18 years military ATC experience and have been invited to test for UP. I recently took an aptitude test to qualify for Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits and did pretty well...am hoping their test will be along the same lines. Any recommendations for taking the OMTB? Does anyone know if UP does interviews that same day? I have heard they do, but no mention of that in their instructions. Also, does anyone know how the wages of entry level positions work, or is it dependent on experience and/or specialty? Any info appreciated! Thanks in advance!
