Hey Rjudd and Sean,
I failed the Strength test (IPCS test)@ the beginning of 2011. After 7 months i have finally received the CSX version of the results. IPCS will not discuss anything with anyone other than the company that paid for the test. I have been trying to contact CSX medical to get an explanation of the reading of the results as my math says i passed but no one is responding. ( i am not complaining just informing here)
The results i am looking at say the following
Position: Signal Maintainer
Rating: Heavy (which is from the dictionary of Occupational title rating)
Reason for results: Reference Range: Terms Defined
shoulder I.P.C.S. (my score) >137.59 (see below for)
BW ( ) >0.78 (term definition)
%ile (this seems to be my percentile for this part of test)
Knee I.P.C.S (my score) >277.25
BW ( ) >0.78
%ile (same as above for this test)
Overall I.P.C.S. shoulder+knee= this # >422.23
BW same here for BW >1.56
%ile (2 %ile above added together gets this #)
D.O.T. Rating (My rating) (rating from above which is heavy)
in the terms definition above it says "total torque for shoulder flexion/extension divided by body weight".
same for "knee" and same for "overall"
So here is the funny part. They say i did not meet the physical needs for the job as i was below their standard...lol. here is why this is funny, for 10 years i was a rigger for a safe and vault company. i have moved upto 4 tons of safe and vaults with only a pallet jack and my strength...lol. I have personally moved over 10 tons with only blocking..lol. I have never had an injury related to work. my knees, hips, and shoulders have never been injured...lol.. because i let the rigging equipment do the heavy lifting.
Here is what i think they are doing for math. they have a standard based off of the OC rating book, which you can look up. then they have a means of judging the ability of the subject via the graph to see if there is any loss of power during the test cycle, which tells them if you have had an injury. they divide this by your BMI (body mass index) to give th BM number for shoulder, knee, then the overall. Your total BM needs to be over the >1.56 number they are looking at.
JRudd don't sweat this. Just listen to everyone out here, try and break the machine and you will do fine. I really think someone messed on the math on mine as my math tells me i passed the 1.56 with a 2.1990.
Good luck Jrudd
i hope this is not too dificult to follow
