Yeah I believe them, its just the family and friends that keep hounding you about when your start date is that is getting to me. I have patience.

Brian86 - Where are you located?

Poplar Bluff, Missouri. So they told you April is possible? I would be willing to bet that we will be in the same start group. There were 15 of us that got hired out of denver.

There were 15 that were hired out of Portland as well. Will the training for this position be centralized? I haven't a clue about any of that.

"But o well I'm ready to ride, fly or walk for that good money"

Now that is the sort of mind set that will help you land a job.

Brian86 - Yeah, when I was talking with the hr guy he made sure that I hadn't said word to my current employer just yet. When you were at the hiring session, did they mention the big rail yard expansion project in New Mexico that we might get sent to and that was scheduled to break ground in April. Supposed to be the biggest rail yard UP has ever built.

Good thought though. I'm willing to bet it has something to do with the anticipation of better weather. I was told that we would not get laid off during the winter months(you used to be able to count on that in the past), but coming from the construction industry I know that when you are planning big projects, you plan for better weather for better efficiency on completing the task at hand... But then again, it is the railroad we're talking about.

Hello i was invited to a UP hiring session at the end of the week i was wondering if anyone knows what to expect. I already took my reading test and passed and will have completed DCTC RR conductor course by the time of the hiring session? Just wondering how the whole process works thanks

Was wondering when you find out what position you get if hired for train crew with UP.
Am I understanding it right that it could be one of three; brakeman, switchman or conductor?

largemouth all i know is that i applied for a train crew position. i was wondering what to expect as far as the hiring session goes. Like what questions they might ask and if there is any testing involved other than the reading test i already took?

Here is how my session went:
Reading (word problem test) 20 questions.
    If you pass you stay.
Overview of company, job, benefits, and other information (film from UP)
    Q and A session
    Scarey speech
    Q and A session
Interviews lasting around 20 mins each.
    Handshake
See what happens (took about a week for my conditional offer)
Then all other test follow (PAT, background, and physical)
    See what happens
    Thanks or no thanks

Interview questions are very basic and generic (be honest and be yourself)

Question to all you folks out there. After you have received your release to start with Union Pacific what is the possibility of not getting hired at that point.
